- attending a meeting of the Stringed Instrument Makers of Southern California which was "formed to promote association among stringed instrument makers (luthiers) in Southern California, to further the understanding of stringed instrument building, and to help improve the instrument-making skills of members".
- reading The Art of Violin Making by Chris Johnson and Roy Courtnall. It's simply
the best modern presentation utilizing the traditional Italian approach
