• attending a meeting of the Southern California Association of Violin Makers which holds meetings once a month alternating between San Diego County and the greater Los Angeles region. Almost every meeting has detailed instruction in some aspect of new construction or repair. If you can't attend you can still become a member and receive the monthly newsletter.
• reading The Art of Violin Making by Chris Johnson and Roy Courtnall. It's simply the best modern presentation utilizing the traditional Italian approach I've seen.
• checking out the Makers' Sites on my Links page.
